Fully funded PhD positions are available in Prof.Zhangxian Yuan’s research group (https://wp.wpi.edu/yuan) at the Aerospace Engineering Department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Our research interests lie primarily in the broad areas of structural mechanics, with a focus on developing theoretical models and computational techniques to analyze and understand the mechanical behavior of advanced structures in order to design novel structures for extreme conditions.

Self-motivated individuals with strong passion / research experience in ONE or more of the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply,

• Mechanics of composite materials and structures;

• Nonlinear mechanics and structural stability of slender structures;

• Origami structures;

• Finite element method and/or other numerical simulation methods;

• Engineering applications of machine learning techniques.

Minimum requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, civilor other related areas;

• Solid knowledge of numerical methods and linear algebra.

Familiarity with coding languages (FORTRAN, C++, or Python) would be helpful. The desired start date is Spring 2022 or Fall 2022.
