Job description for postdoctoral scientists 

Postdoctoral positions are available in Dr. Lei Ding’s laboratory in Columbia Stem Cell Initiative, Department of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine, and Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Columbia University Medical Center in the city of New York. The laboratory investigates fundamental mechanisms, particularly extrinsic mechanisms that regulate stem cell self-renewal using mouse blood-forming stem cells as a system (please see relative work: Nature, 2012, 481:457-62; Nature, 2013, 495:231-5; Nature Cell Biology, 2017, 19:677; Science, 2018, 360:106; Nature Cell Biology, 2019, 21:700). 

The successful candidates will work on elucidating extrinsic mechanisms that regulate hematopoietic stem cell self-renewal and how deregulation of the microenvironmental niche contribute to hematological diseases using mouse genetics, imaging and other molecular and cellular techniques. Specific projects will be discussed and tailored to fit the candidates’ background and interest. Laboratory experience with mouse genetics, stem cell biology, immunology and bioinformatics is desired but not required. Ability to communicate with other members in the laboratory and work both as a team member and with independence is a must. Competitive candidates should be highly self-motivated individuals with a good record of publication.
